We have an opportunity for an Analyst to join our Metals, Mining and Agriculture (MMA) Mining Finance Division within our Commodities and Global Markets business. The Mining Finance Division is responsible for originating debt, equity and hybrid transactions between Macquarie and companies involved in the metals and mining sector.

About the role

As part of the expanding MMA Mining Finance Division in Toronto, you will be making and managing principal credit and equity investments. This is an important role providing support to senior members of the team in evaluating investment opportunities, conducting research, developing investment recommendations, participating in the execution of investments and on-going monitoring and management of investments. You will be responsible for:

  • building complex and dynamic financial models to test assumptions and sensitivities
  • assisting in the structuring of funding packages including senior, mezzanine and equity financing
  • preparing investment memoranda
  • derivative pricing and analysis
  • documentation of facilities and liaison with internal and external lawyers
  • handling metal sales
  • reporting and administrative tasks and other ad-hoc responsibilities as required.

You will have the opportunity to participate in all aspects of the investment process as part of a global team of 20+ mining finance professionals including geologists and mining engineers. Our flat team environment will enable you to gain a wide breadth of responsibility and contribute to investment decisions of the Mining Finance Division.

About you

To be successful you will have:

  • experience in leveraged finance, credit investing, buy-side investing or investment banking
  • meaningful exposure to, or demonstrated interest in, the natural resources sector
  • experience with derivative transactions and/or equity investments would be a plus
  • an undergraduate honours business degree (or similar) with a focus on finance
  • a track record of superior academic achievement and high performance on the job
  • strong research, financial modelling, analytical and valuation skills
  • strong interpersonal skills and business relationship skills
  • the ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing
  • proficiency in multiple languages would be a plus
  • a professional designation (or working towards one) would be a plus.
