Chief of Staff, Office of the President

Position Summary:

Reporting directly to the President and CEO, the Chief of Staff plays a key leadership role in the management of all activities led by the President’s Office, the Executive Team and the College’s Board of Governors. The Chief of Staff is responsible for the leadership, organization, management, and staffing of the Office of the President and supporting the College’s Board of Governors.The incumbent provides operational oversight and manages a wide range of matters of organizational importance.The Chief of Staff is responsible for the coordination of all functions in the office, including managing the day to day administration the staff in the provision of support to the President & CEO and of the Board of Governors.

As a member of the the President’s Executive Team the incumbent provides advice and input into the directions and decisions adopted by the College and supports the work of the Team through the coordination the formulation of agendas and the circulation of materials.


  • Manages the activities and staff of the President’s Office overseeing the daily operations of the Office providing leadership and direction to its professional staff.
  • Supports the College’s Board of Governors through the coordination of information and communications to Board members and Committee members.
  • Coordinates and manages the preparation of all Executive Team meetings, including the setting of agendas and coordinating information distribution.
  • Coordinates all communications with the President’s office.
  • Connects, aligns and coordinates cross-college activities and resources in the organizing of events and ceremonies hosted by the President’s Office.
  • Manages employee award programs for the President’s Office and Board of Governors’
  • Reviews investigates and responds internal and external complaints working closely with internal and external stakeholders to resolve issues which may have escalated to the President Office,
  • Selects, assigns and coaches individuals with respect to delivering convocation address
  • Manages special events for the college and Board of Governors’, including conferences, workshops, symposia and community events
  • Reviews, revises and approves the development and implementation of corporate communications sent out on behalf of the President and CEO, and works collaboratively with the Marketing and Communications department.
  • Leads and manages multiple complex college wide projects
  • Prepares annual operating budget and monitors budget expenditures
  • Manages the administrative services to the Board of Governors’ and provides support and advice to the Board on strategic and operational issues
  • Manages corporate social responsibility and charitable fundraising initiatives


  • Four-year University degree in public or business administration

  • Minimum fifteen years of progressively responsible management experience in a complex unionized environment, and experience providing administrative support to senior executives and working with Boards of Directors

  • Demonstrated experience dealing with a broad spectrum of issues including human resources, diversity and equity issues, finance, corporate communications, fundraising and event planning.

  • Exceptional interpersonal skills and strong leadership, with the ability to interact and influence at the most senior levels of an organization, and a strong sense of sensitivity and diplomacy

  • Excellent writing and communication skills

  • Ability to work collaboratively and strategically in a team environment

  • Effective time management, coordination, planning and organizational skills and ability to prioritize a heavy workload and multitask under pressure
  • Strong conflict and dispute resolution
  • Experience and understanding of working effectively in a diverse environment
