Road Service Technician

Job Description

Are you good with your hands, have a knack for all things technical? Join the Johnston Equipment team as a road service technician! The ideal candidate will be skilled with mechanical, electrical, and information technology skills. In this role you will be conducting maintenance checks and diagnosing repairs for lift trucks and carousels at customer sites. You are familiar with examining overall operational integrity and condition of the trucks. You have an eye for finding defective or worn out mechanical or electrical parts then communicating and executing next steps for repair solutions to the customer. As a technician, you are the front line contact between GNJ and the customer, so you are comfortable with client contact as well as having technical savvy. You pride yourself on having a good grasp of the roads as well as strong time management ability. Johnston Equipment provides technical tools to its technicians to support them in their positions including the latest technology (ipads, iphones, work standards, GPS) in order to process work orders and maintain your parts inventory with maximum efficiency and accuracy.

Key Work Activities:

Activity A Preventative Maintenance and Repair

65%

  • Maintain and repair various types of materials handling equipment in various types of applications
  • Carry the 24 hour pager when scheduled to do so, if applicable
  • Look up part numbers required for repairs and place orders with parts department
  • Ensure work area in customer’s facility is clean and tidy following the completion of maintenance/repairs
  • Provide leads to sales and service departments.
  • Source parts and contact parts suppliers

Activity B Ordering and Invoicing

20%

  • Complete service work orders and obtain customer signature
  • Close work order through dispatch
  • Complete various forms i.e. S/M, breakdown, warranty, propane, Carousels and 101
  • Submit shop recommendations
  • Complete and submit overtime and expense reports
  • Maintain library of service manuals in van and update with service bulletins
  • Return warranty parts with proper documentation
  • Pick up parts or organize delivery of parts
  • Bill out parts to work orders
  • Maintain and invoice purchase orders

Activity C Customer Relations

10%

  • Provide quotes to customers on parts and labour pricing
  • Review work order with customer
  • File and maintain records of work orders
  • Schedule maintenance appointments with customers, if applicable
  • Follow customer’s policies and procedures while in their facility
  • Respond to customer complaints/concerns
  • Provide answers to customers questions relating to products, parts, safety related issues

Activity D Van Parts Inventory and Van Maintenance

5%

  • Keep van well maintained and in good working order (i.e. oil changes, tire replacement, washing, etc.), if applicable
  • Keep van tidy and organized and stocked with safety items, if applicable
  • Clean and maintain van tools, if applicable
  • Ensure all parts are accounted for
  • Keep parts in van organized, if applicable
  • Perform yearly van inventory, if applicable
  • Maintain inventory for consignment stock at customer’s facility, if applicable.
