Communications and Marketing Specialist

Consulting Engineers of Ontario

This is a Full-time position in Toronto, ON posted August 11, 2017.

Consulting Engineers of Ontario, M9B 6H7

Are you a creative and strategic thinker who enjoys tackling a wide variety of projects?

Do you enjoy working with a smart, thoughtful team of people who pull together to make a big impact?

If so, this might be the opportunity you’ve been waiting for.

At Consulting Engineers of Ontario we advocate on behalf of the consulting engineering firms whose expertise, projects, and services improve the lives and environments of Ontarians every single day. Whether it’s the clean water from your taps, or the roads you drive on, the work of our members influences every part of our daily lives – we advocate on their behalf to ensure they can perform their work at the highest level possible.

Now we’re looking to add a new member to our team, and find new opportunities to share our work and vision with our members and other stakeholders.

That’s where you come in

As our new Communications and Marketing Specialist, you will be implementing a wide range of communication strategies, as well as creating and directing projects geared towards our membership, key stakeholders, and the public.

There is a great deal of variety in terms of what you’ll be working on, and no two days will be quite the same. Sometimes you’ll be working on digital platforms, including social media, our website, and our online newsletter. Other times you’ll be working in print: such as event scripts, media backgrounders and other internal tasks.

No matter what the task, we want someone who can bring vision and insight to every project, and produce compelling, creative copy that is persuasive, interesting, and technically sound.

You’ll also have plenty of opportunities to flex your creative powers in this role. Many of our communications will have a visual aspect, so you’ll also be employing skills in design and layout, in addition to copy writing.

You’ll be perfect for this role if you’re great at:

  • Project management – you know how to execute deliverables on time, and you possess the self-motivation and organization to work efficiently on your own.
  • Communication – whether in print or in person, you’re a master of getting your point across to, stakeholders, colleagues or anyone else.
  • Analysis – you’re good at picking up on trends and patterns, and can apply that knowledge effectively to improve communications in a variety of channels.

Most importantly, you must have exceptional mastery of the English language, both written and verbal – the work you produce will reflect upon the stature and professionalism of the organization and our members, so your dedication to high quality prose will be key to your success.

Working With Us

This will be a full-time, permanent position with hours from Monday to Friday, 8:30am to 4:30pm, plus occasional evenings and weekends. We offer a competitive salary that will be commensurate with your experience. We also offer a comprehensive benefits package, RSP matching and three weeks plus paid vacation. We’ll even pay for your parking!

You’ll be working with a small group of talented professionals (just seven of us in the office!), who are all encouraged to be decision markers so you’ll have plenty of impact in this role. You’ll always be working on something different, and you can bring your whole skill set to bear on your work.

We like to consider ourselves a close-knit and collaborative group, so you’ll also receive lots of support, and gain insight into all sorts of initiatives happening outside of your area of expertise.

Qualifications

  • Experience in a marketing/communications role, preferably in an engineering, government, non-profit, or similar organization/sector
  • Experience writing/editing copy for a broad audience, and measuring the results of communications strategies
  • Experience executing coordinated marketing/communications strategies
  • Experience with social media marketing, and knowledge of best practices
  • Experience with media relations would be an asset
  • Strong computer skills, including proficiency with MS Office and Adobe software
  • Post-secondary degree in business communications, marketing, public relations, or similar
