Associate Director, Data Integrity & Key Controls


This is a Contract position in Scarborough, ON posted June 6, 2021.

What is the opportunity?

Reporting to the Director, Data Integrity & Key Controls this role is a key contributor in ensuring the accuracy and completeness of Finance and Risk shared data assets and reporting data.

In this role you will lead a team of analysts accountable for data quality initiatives, monitoring key controls, investigating and documenting data quality issues, performing root cause analysis, and determining steps required to remediate identified issues for the Finance & Risk Data Management Office (FRDMO).

You will develop and maintain working relationships with lines of businesses (LOB) across the organization including Personal & Commercial Banking, Capital Markets, Finance, Wealth Management and other enterprise functions.

What will you do?

Review and assess data quality key control business requirements, control design, exception and issues management investigations and reporting, and oversee the remediation of data issues.

Manage and conduct detailed investigations and report findings based on key control exceptions, identified issues, and ad hoc requests from Finance and Critical Risk Report owners and other users of shared data assets.

Provide monthly summary and detailed data quality reporting to business partners, stakeholders and executive leadership, including data quality exceptions, findings and the status of outstanding issues.

Implement reports and tools that provide access to data and KPIs and deliver insights that simplify work and enable deeper understanding.

Review data quality process documentation for accuracy and completeness, monitor their efficiency and effectiveness and recommend/implement improvements to controls, investigations, reporting, issues management and work flows.

Propose process changes/improvements to address gaps or inconsistencies in data, processes and/or controls and raise awareness of best practices and approved provisioning points for commonly used data assets.

Provide leadership and communicate effectively with team members, stakeholders and business partners, resolving conflicts/issues of medium complexity and escalating to others as appropriate.

Collaborate with the Chief Data Office and other Data Management Offices to align standards and best practices to improve data quality, participating in corporate initiatives to raise awareness and drive improved data quality across the organization (e.g.

Data Working Groups, Data Literacy projects).

What do you need to succeed?

Must-have Relevant experience in financial services and systems including finance and credit risk data, data quality principles, data control design, data management, business analysis, SOX principles.

Knowledge of financial reporting, finance and risk business concepts and procedures.

Intermediate to advanced knowledge of data analysis methods and the ability to analyze and resolve complex data related issues.

Experience conducting root cause analysis, using tools such as SQL, Excel, Hive.

Undergraduate degree in a numerical discipline, IT, business administration or a combination.

Nice-to-have Ability to manage multiple competing priorities in times of stress.

Familiarity with financial service regulatory requirements and guidelines (e.g.

IFRS 9, CECL) and data management regulations (e.g.

BCBS 239, GDPR).

Excellent communication skills, verbal and written.

Proficiency in preparation of reports and presentations.

People management experience.
