Registered Nurse / Registered Psychiatric Nurse

Your Opportunity: Are you an experienced Registered Nurse/Registered Psychiatric Nurse (RN/PRN) with expertise in the assessment, care planning & management of patients with cognitive/mental health/behavior concerns?

The RN/RPN Complex Care Support Team is a member of a mobile North Zone interdisciplinary team providing consultation services to clinical teams caring for adults with cognitive/mental health/behavioral problems in the Continuing Care stream.

The Complex Care Support team provides consultation & support to teams caring for patients with conditions where behaviors impact how care is provided, including dementia, brain injuries, development disabilities & mental health conditions.

Using a patient/family centered approach, you will take a lead role in providing specialized assessments, care plan consultations & follow-up when indicated.

You may provide coaching & education to direct caregivers to help them understand the nature & causes.

In collaboration with the local team, you will develop strategies to meet the patient’s needs & support implementation & evaluation of those strategies.

You will work closely with representatives in Continuing Care, Home Care, Acute Care, Addiction & Mental Health, Community Agencies & others as needed for assessment & care planning.

Working with the Complex Care Support Team Educator, you will participate in delivering in-service sessions as needed & help access resources & services needed by your clients.

This position supports Area 10 (Fort McMurray) as part of a virtual team serving North Zone.

In addition to a competitive rate of pay, AHS currently has a Fort McMurray Allowance in place to an annual maximum of $12,480.

This allowance is non-pensionable & is payable on an hourly basis for all hours paid at the basic rate of pay.

Description: As a Registered Nurse (RN), you will provide a wide variety of nursing services to patients, families, communities and populations, while taking necessary steps to ensure their safety and well-being.

In your role, you will utilize nursing processes, through critical thinking, problem solving and decision making, as well as teach, counsel and advocate on behalf of patients and their families.

You will play a leadership role in supporting an integrated and holistic approach to patient care, health promotion and maintenance.

You will provide safe, quality patient and family centered care while reflecting the shared vision and values of AHS.

Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College and Association of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CARNA).

Current Basic Cardiac Life Support
– Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP).

Additional Required Qualifications: Three years’ experience as an RN/RPN including at least one year experience working in Addiction and Mental Health, dementia, geriatric psychiatry, developmental disabilities and/or brain injury.

Possession of a valid driver’s license and access to a motor vehicle in good repair for work-related travel.

Preferred Qualifications: PIECES, Supportive Pathways, NVCI and/or Case Management education.

Experience with Epic and/or Meditech.

Knowledge of the Mental Health Act and Addiction Mental Heath Services.

Experience working in a virtual environment.

CNA certification in Gerontology or Psychiatric and Mental Health.

Knowledge of Continuing Care system.

Knowledge of PDD services.
