Over the next 30 years our shipbuilders will construct 20 modern patrol ships and surface combatants for the Royal Canadian Navy as part of Canada’s National Shipbuilding Strategy, the largest defence procurement in Canadian history.

This year, we delivered the lead Arctic and Offshore Patrol Ship, the largest Navy ship built in Canada in 50 years and we’re just getting started.

The second ship will be delivered in 2021.

is seeking a Systems Engineer
– Transversals Lead for the Canadian Surface Combatant Project.

The Systems Engineer
– Transversals Lead will fulfill a key role in the Canadian Surface Combatant (CSC) Systems Engineering Team, providing Systems Engineering management subject matter expertise into the program.

Reporting to the Senior Manager Systems Engineering, the successful candidate will be required to work closely with the other Systems Engineering leads in the areas of Certification, Safety and Environmetnal Management, and Product Security.

They must work collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders to define and implement Systems Engineering management processes for design and acceptance and present strategy and process to project teams.

Transverse requirements are Non-Functional requirements that are applicable at the whole ship level, and subsequently apply to all systems or equipment fitted in the ship.

Controlled management of transversal technical requirements is essential to ensuring that the ship and its systems are coherently integrated.

This is a permanent full-time role based in Halifax Regional Municipality, Nova Scotia.

The primary language of work is English.

Qualifications: Education Required: Post-secondary education in Engineering/Science discipline; Years of Experience Required: Essential
– 5 years applicable trade experience in large complex maritime (preferably Defence) acquisition projects involving coordination between multiple organizations; and Experience applying Systems Engineering principles to complex design programs; Experience in design requirements for naval internal and external battle management; Proficiency with requirements development and decomposition, process mapping, process assurance and product safety and security assurance; Excellent communication and interpersonal skills; and Problem solving skills and ability to lead and manage multiple priorities in a fast pace environment.

All successful applicants must meet requirements for Canadian Controlled Goods Program (CGP), Canadian Government Security clearance, North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) Secret Clearance,and U.S.

International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR).

Key Responsibilities: Plan, organize, and coordinate work of the CSC Transversals Team; Assign work, set expectations and accountability for completion; Lead Transversals governance and working groups; Ensure quality and timeliness of work is completed within project milestones; Assign and status jobs/coordinate integrated schedule; Communicate with other supervisors to help achieve and maintain smooth work flow and a high degree of productivity; Foster an environment that is focused on safety and recommend process improvement initiatives; Provide assurance that engineering process identified in the CSC project Systems Engineering Management Plan is being applied across the Engineering teams; Identify and develop supplementary engineering process that support the framework identified in the CSC project Systems Engineering Management Plan; Define the process and set the criteria for internal and external Design Reviews and assist in the management of Design Reviews; Provide interface with Supply Chain and Design for Build teams to ensure System Engineering process aligns and influences procurement and production processes.

Provide interface with the Quality Management team to support the Quality objectives of the project; and Comply with all company procedures.
