Program Support Worker (bilingual French/English) (Revised: previously posted as a part-time position)


This is a Contract position in Toronto, ON posted February 11, 2018.

Type: Full-time, indefinite duration

Salary: $42-47,000, commensurate with experience

Start date: On or before March 1, 2018

The AFC is the lifeline for Canada’s entertainment industry, helping Canadian entertainment professionals maintain their health, dignity and ability to work when they are at their most vulnerable due to injury, illness or other personal hardship.

The AFC distributes roughly $500,000 per year in emergency financial aid, and is currently expanding to provide programs and services in the fields of financial wellness, social work and mental health support.

Reporting to the Program Manager and the Case Manager, the Program Support Worker will provide compassionate and welcoming client service, and assist the Case Manager with case flow management, delivery of emergency financial aid payments, and administrative support for our Emergency Financial Aid program. The Program Support Worker will also provide follow-up support to clients and direct client service for occasional French-language applications. In addition, the Program Support Worker will assist the Program Manager with research and communications.

This position requires a registered social worker or social service worker with fluency in French and English. Candidates will be required to manage complex, emotional phone conversations in French as well as conveying nuanced concepts and clear detail in writing to clients and third parties. The ideal candidate will be detail-oriented and patient, with administrative experience, compassion and understanding, and a passion for supporting arts and entertainment workers. The job comprises frequent phone and computer work, along with in-office client visits, as part of a small team-based environment.

Availability: This is a full-time salaried position, 9:30-5:30 Monday-Friday at The AFC’s office.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

Client service

  • Field inquiries and assist clients applying for emergency financial assistance
  • Function as the main point of contact for French-speaking applicants
  • Collect follow-up documentation from clients and third parties
  • Coordinate emergency financial assistance payments and arrange deliveries
  • Provide follow-up communication and correspondence to clients and third parties
  • Additional client service and support as needed, including referrals, personal support, and short-term planning


  • Coordinate case administration with the Case Manager and other staff
  • Assist Program Manager with program communications
  • Identify and research potential partnership and programming opportunities
  • Enter application and summary payment information into the database on a regular basis
  • Maintain clear and up-to-date client files and archives (electronic and paper)
  • Research and reporting tasks as required; additional data entry and administrative tasks as necessary


  • Fluency in spoken and written French and English is required. Note: shortlisted candidates will be tested for French proficiency.
  • BSW, or SSW with 3-5 years relevant work experience, is required
  • Registration in good standing with OCSWSSW
  • Minimum three years’ work experience in a social service setting; experience with personal finance, crisis services, and administration strongly preferred
  • Basic proficiency with Microsoft Office required; experience with Raiser’s Edge or other databases a very strong asset.
  • Knowledge of community resources in Toronto and surrounding areas; familiarity with resources in Vancouver a strong asset.
  • Working knowledge of and/or experience in the Canadian arts and entertainment industry strongly preferred

    • Obtaining financial or medical documentation;
    • Finding and obtaining medical treatment and support services.
