Reporting to the Manager of Allied Health, the Speech Language Pathologist′s responsibilities will include providing Speech Language Services to the General Medicine, Stroke, and Rehab populations.

Requirements:

•Master′s degree or equivalent in Speech – Language Pathology
•Registered with the College of Audiology and Speech Language Pathologists of Ontario (CASLPO)
•Experience working with acute in-patient adult/geriatric individuals, and individuals from multicultural backgrounds preferred
•Experience in the assessment and management of neurogenic speech/communication disorders and clinical swallowing assessment
•Experience in video fluoroscopic assessment and management of swallowing disorders
•Evidence of sound organizational and prioritization skills with the ability to work well in stressful situations.
•Excellent interpersonal, communication, documentation, and teamwork skills with the ability to work well with patients, families and the community.
•Ability to provide care that reflects the Patient and Family Centered Care Model
•Ability to work cohesively as part of a interdisciplinary team
•Experience in educating and training staff, family, students and volunteers
•Knowledge of the relevant profession specific and general legislation, including the Health Care Consent Act, Substitute Decision Act and Public Hospital Act
•Ability to collaborate with SLP colleagues for coordinated service provision and hospital-wide professional activities.
•Ability to work well independently and to exercise sound judgement to perform the essential duties of the position.
•Demonstrated pattern of good attendance
•Demonstrates a commitment to customer service when dealing with patients, colleagues, volunteers and other members of the community and public
•Exposure to Lean principles, an understanding of methodologies and tools and a commitment to the use of these in support of providing the best healthcare experience possible to our patients
• Demonstrated understanding of and commitment to SHN′s comprehensive safety programs and practices including staff, patient and environmental safety and participation in regular in-service in this area
• Demonstrates values consistent with SHN’s Code of Conduct and is committed to fostering a healthy and positive work environment in accordance with Health & Safety policy and legislation.
• Utilize protective equipment provided and identify and reports hazards
• Engages in ethical conduct and strives to understand and appreciate the diversity of our patient/staff population and community
• Excellent work performance and attendance record
• Demonstrates an understanding of and commitment to SHN’s comprehensive safety programs and practices including staff, patient and environmental safety and participates in regular in-service education in this area.
